Liza is in my living room!! I’ve been itching to put art on the walls in the living room of our NYC apt since I moved in over 7 years ago 🤦🏻♂️. I’m not really a collector of things, in fact one of my favorite hobbies is throwing things out, so when it came to creating a gallery wall of items that felt eclectic, collected, and high end I had to really put my brain to work to achieve that with no “archive” to pull from. I wanted the pieces to have a connection to our lives, and not just be a “cute” or stylish so I scoured all my favorite moderately priced furnishing stores as well as websites like all posters.com, fy.com, and art.com. Some pieces I paid a premium for, but to keep the overall costs down I also looked for affordable posters that I could mount in my favorite Ribba frame from IKEA (my #1 affordable art trick).
I’ve become a bit obsessed with custom furniture. First the dining table in our Philly house, next our interior define sofa, and most recently the custom acrylic coffee table in our living room. The concept of an acrylic coffee table is pretty standard, but given the constraints of our space I just didn’t like the available options. With the chaise being a pretty large component of our sofa we needed a coffee table with a small physical footprint as well as one that wouldn’t create an imbalance visually and add to much weight to the right side of the sofa.
Ever feel like a project you’re working in is dragging on forever? Yeah well that was me with our living room. Back in December we moved all our living room furniture down to our house in Philly to furnish it for our Airbnb venture (and mostly so I could redecorate our NYC apt 😜). I’ve always loved interior design but living in small NY spaces it’s just not practical to be buying new furniture on the reg, so even though this project took longer than I wished, it has been a labor of love.
One of the goals I had for our airbnb property was to make it feel like it wasn’t just thrown together and that it was a home with some serious style. A key to achieve that was to have some art on the walls. Filling the walls of a three bedroom home with art could easily be an expensive task, but with a little googling I found a few affordable hacks.
When we decided that we were going to furnish the home we bought in Philly and rent it out as a short term rental on airbnb I dove right in to designing the living room. Bedrooms are pretty straight forward, but I wanted the living room to pop and set the stage for guests coming in. It needed to provide comfort and function, but also a very strong first impression. If the living room was designed well, I knew that guests would be more forgiving in other areas.
If you’ve been following along on my Insta stories you’ve seen a lot of hard work dedicated to turning our house in Philly into an airbnb rental. I’m planning to share with you a lot more of my interior design projects starting with the Philly house, but also soon our apt in NYC too!
Okay so as promised I wanted to share with you all the behind the scenes of my latest looks on Fire Island. In case you haven’t noticed, the Pines is one of my favorite places on earth. It’s the only place I can wear very little clothing and also turn the most insane looks and be praised for it all while sipping & twirling to Cher, Ariana, Madonna, and Britney. I could go on forever about all the things I love about the Pines, but this is not about that, this is about the LOOKS!
I often find that life has a way of teaching me the lessons I need to learn at the exact moments I need to learn them. In middle school it was getting called down to the principals office for being one of a few boys teasing one girl. I learned then that making fun of someone just to fit in isn’t right. In high school it was losing a friend for gossiping and realizing that I should never say anything behind someone’s back I wouldn’t say to their face. After college it was getting a DUI my first weekend home. I learned (and so did many of my friends) that it’s not worth the risk of even having one drink and getting behind the wheel.
I’ve had a number of people ask me to shop for them, style them, or to just simply give them my clothes. Well I’m a busy guy so here is the next best alternative — check out the things in my cart 😄 One of my tricks to looking cute on a budget is that I scour the fast fashion sites looking for deals. Most recently I went through every single item in the Urban Outfitters sale section both Men & Women’s. I literally put every single one of these items in my cart to the total of $1,752.22. I’m not actually going to buy all of it, but I figured I would share it all with you, so shop away and hit me up if you buy anything, I’d love to see how you style it!
Admittedly it’s been way too long since my last blog post but I’ve been a little pre occupied this summer with sipping & twirling. Anyway I wanted to share with you all the Gucci fedora hack from my post the other day.
Spring is here, and summer is around the corner, it’s a wonderful time to be alive :) It’s also a wonderful time to re-assess your wardrobe and make sure you have all the warm weather basics to stay comfy, cool, and stylish as the temperatures start to rise. If you’ve ever lived through a NYC summer heatwave you know it’s no joke and you have to be strategic with your clothing choices to stay sane and avoid being a sopping mess.
Twice a year as a New Yorker with restricted closet space I’m forced to evaluate my wardrobe and either pack things away for the winter or get rid of them. This season I’m also including a third option —> hack it!!
If you have followed me for a while you know that every season is swimsuit season and I maintain a six pack throughout the year. I have always said summer bodies are made in the winter, but now is definitely the time to push your hardest so you can enter the sunny season in peak shape. If you're like me you party harder, travel more, and find it more difficult to be as diligent with your normal fitness routine in the summer.
The past week and a half have been crazy for me with work/personal travels and just not feeling motivated at my own gym workouts, so I decided to do a little tour of my favorite fitness classes as a way to get into White Party swimsuit shape and also revive my motivation. Here are my 3 favorite classes that I take to mix up my fitness regime.
